An Evening with Aggers & Bumble

About the show

Jonathan Agnew has interviewed folk on radio from all walks of life – rock stars, actors, writers, comedians, two prime ministers – and even a boy wizard…  For the past decade, his consummate on air skills have proved electric on stage, delighting audiences in theatres all over England.  In these Evenings with Aggers shows, he has tackled commentary colleagues Geoffrey Boycott, Graeme Swann, Sunil Gavaskar, Phil Tufnell, Alastair Cook and, of course, the gloriously eccentric David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd.

Bumble is a true one-off – a maverick raconteur and an absolute national treasure.  His hilarious tales include anecdotes from his experiences as a cricketing all-rounder for Lancashire and England, a semi-professional footballer for Accrington Stanley, a first class umpire and as a coach at Lancashire and England.  With his idiosyncratic delivery and comedic timing, he could genuinely read the phone directory and have you in stitches!  He was last on stage with Aggers over 5 years ago in a tour which played to sell out audiences.  So, as he would say, ‘get in quick!’

This event is being run in aid of the Professional Cricketers’ Association, and money raised on the evening will go to the organisation’s Benevolent Fund.

There is only one Bumble – so don’t miss out on seeing him live!

“The warmth of Agnew’s delivery came over the most, something which would charm even non-sports fans.”

Pete Woodhouse Lynn News, Hunstanton

“Aggers has established himself as one of cricket’s finest summarisers and he’s taken his tales from the boundaries on to the touring circuit with aplomb.”

John Carter Swindon Advertiser

“It began before Aggers even appeared on stage with one of the funniest Test Match Special moments – the famous 1991 ‘leg over’ sequence in which Brian Johnston collapses into laughter as he’s trying to summarise a day’s play. And that set a high standard as it was the schoolboy humour, the pranks and the japes that proved to be the evening’s highlights.”

Cliff Moore Bournemouth Echo

“Commanding the Spa Centre stage with the much-practised presence of a man of 6ft 4, we were treated to one anecdote after another, delivered with wit, timing, that irrepressible sense of mischief and seemingly effortless style.”

Chris Arnot Elementary What’s On Royal Leamington Spa

“Rather like the Test Match Special programme he has been part of for more than a quarter of a century, it’s about a lot more than just cricket. It’s about company, indeed, about life itself.”
